Jim / Chris - following up on a conversation with friends in relation to housing. One of them made an interesting point in relation to the ongoing scandal of building quality standards posing problems for apartments from the 2000s / 2010s mostly in relation to fire standards which are dragging on without any resolution. Largely due to developers having declared bankruptcy and/or dissolved their companies. Appreciate your points on the complexity and multi factorial circumstances of the housing market, but with the need to increase house/apartment building in Ireland to meet demand, is there a question as to whether Ireland has the right level of regulation on building quality for houses and apartments to ensure a supply of quality homes/apartments?
Jim / Chris - Thanks for picking up on my comment in relation to a different approach to house building - picking up on Doughnut economics and Green Deal principles. Re-reading my previous comment, I wasn't suggesting that the public sector build the houses, but your commentary on the public sector providing the policy and initiatives to make it happen is spot on in my opinion :). I also echo your comments that Government initiatives on Housing to date has been ad-hoc and not well thought through. Continuing that theme of public policy and initiatives to make change happen such as in Housing, I would be interested in your thoughts on Mariana Mazzucato's focus on the 'Entrepreneurial State' and her Mission based approach - Is Housing in Ireland - right for a Mission-based approach?
